How it started

The repository started out as a humble spreadsheet listing knitwear designers who graded to larger sizes. Immediately popular, it soon grew to include more crafts, individual patterns, and eventually even testing resources and publications.

Our criteria

Generally speaking, patterns are considered “size inclusive” if they will fit an adult body with a full chest measurement of 30-60″ (75-150cm). Our goal is to include as many fully inclusive patterns as possible; however, as the original objective of the spreadsheet was to serve fat makers and this remains a critical objective of the Size Inclusive Collective, we do not exclude patterns that meet the upper size range, but not the smaller. Now that the pattern repository is searchable and filterable, it should be easy for smaller makers to filter out the small number of patterns that fall short.

Our data

We capture the key data for each pattern:

  • Photo
  • Title
  • Designer
  • Craft
  • Yarn Weight
  • Size Range
  • Ease Range
  • Gender Expression

This allows you to search, filter, and sort the patterns to find ones that will suit your needs.

At the designer level, we also capture any additional languages and accessibility options offered.
