How did Forma™ come to be?

My very first fiber art was embroidery around age 6 or 7. Over the years I find myself returning to embroidery and cross stitch over and over again. While pattern trends change and the price of embroidery thread goes up (I miss 4 for $1 sales 😭), I’ve noticed the quality of embroidery hoops has gone down. Hoops may have been around for ages but how they look and feel really hasn’t improved and I’m here to change that. After three years of designing and iterating, beta testing, and stitching – Forma™ is ready for you.

Meet Forma™! Available in new shapes (along with the classics you love!), 22 colors, multiple sizes – with accessibility and ease at the heart of each design!

Why Forma? What does it mean?

🪡 Forma is Latin for form or shape – perfect for our embroidery hoops because I knew I wanted to create fun new shapes like our teardrop! Did you know Forma translates the same for many languages like Italian, Spanish, Polish, Czech and more? Further proof that Forma™ is truly for everyone!

What makes Forma™ different?

🪡 Forma™ hoops are designed to be wider so they are easier to grasp and reduce the risk of hand cramping while you work. Most store bought hoops fit within one of our rings!

🪡 Forma™ features stainless steel hardware that is wider than traditional thumb screws so they are easier to grasp and feature straight knurling with a shallow depth so you can get a grip without it biting into your fingers like traditional diamond knurling can. The hardware is heat set ensuring a smooth experience every time with no worries about cross-threading. The tips have a smooth cupped finish so they won’t snag your fabric.

🪡 FormaLocks are small positive and negative dots around where the inner and outer hoops join which helps add additional tension to keep your fabric taut and locked in place.

🪡 FormaGuide is one of those quality of life additions you never knew you needed! Included at no charge with every single hoop, you lay it inside the hoop after you’ve arranged and tightened your fabric. There is a little hole at the intersection which is your center point for stitching! Mark it or stick a needle through and you’re ready to start working. You can also trace the outside to have your dimensions for designing and use the inner lines to help ensure your fabric is properly aligned. Asymmetrical shapes will have two center markings – one for the middle of the length and one for the middle of the width so you can choose which one is right for your pattern.

🪡 Forma™ is a great tool but it is just as great as a frame! Rather than washing, drying, trying to center and dealing with ripples in a traditional frame, you can sew the back closed over the inner hoop and remove the thumb screw to insert a ribbon or string or length of I-cord to hang your finished work! FormaLocks will keep your work safely in your hoop.

When can I expect my order?

🪡 Since we are printing on demand – made to order – please allow 3-5 business days for your order to ship. We will always do our best to get orders out as fast as possible but please be patient if we need the full window.

🪡 Will there be more shapes and sizes?

Yes, there are already additional shapes that will be added to the lineup and we hope to be able to offer even larger sizes in the coming months.

🪡 Is Forma™ available for wholesale?

Absolutely! Just reach out and I can get you details on wholesale pricing and the minimum order requirements.

🪡 How do you determine the size of Forma™ hoops?

Like many brands, Forma™ is measured from outer edge to outer edge of the inner hoop. We do this because this is the width (and height for asymmetrical shapes) of the fabric you will be able to see. The inner hoop is 1/4″ wide so keep that margin in mind if you’re planning to stitch a design intended to be finished/framed in your Forma™ hoop. If you need the full measured width as working area you may want to order one size up to ensure you have enough space. For example, if the design you plan to stitch says that it is 5″x5″, I would recommend ordering one size up to a 6″. Asymmetrical shapes like our teardrop shows measurements in height x width so I would recommend working from the width number. In this scenario, I would recommend a size 8 or 9 teardrop to ensure you have enough working area.

Tips and tricks

Which side is the “right” side of Forma™ hoops?

The correct side is with the thumb screw facing you on the right. This side has a slight texture to it that gives a polished finish and allows the colors to shine!

If it is hard to insert the inner hoop into the outer Forma™ hoop:

We have hardware set into the left hand side of the hoop opening. Unscrew the thumbscrew until you have some space between the two sides and then move the right side of the opening further right. This will give you room to insert the inner hoop more easily.

If you find the Forma™ circle hoop is harder to close:

This can happen if your FormaLocks are not aligned. On the inner hoop you’ll see a notch/line on the inside. Align that notch/line with the center of the hoop opening. Once you have the locks aligned it will be easier to close.

📢 What Forma™ users are saying! 📢

Fiona M:

It’s so much more comfortable on my hands.

Like I cannot emphasize that enough. Normally I can’t stitch very long because of how normal hoops make my hands cramp but this is way more comfortable!!

Liz D:

Definitely already easier on my hands

🖤

Maddie K:

These things are GOLD for those who have struggled with other hoops or hand issues when stitching.
